Bogdang was part of Baltistan, historically ruled by the Yabgo Dynasty that extended into present-day Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan.
Like nearby Turtuk, Bogdang was under Pakistani administration until the 1971 Indo-Pak war, after which it became part of India.
The village is a cultural treasure trove, home to the Balti people—a Tibetan Muslim ethnic group with a unique blend of Tibetan, Persian, and Central Asian influences.
With deep-rooted traditions in storytelling, music, and oral history, Bogdang continues to preserve centuries-old customs that are rapidly disappearing elsewhere.
