Koyul is a remote and picturesque village located in the Koyul Lungpa valley in southeastern Ladakh, near the Indo-China border. Location & Accessibility

Location: Dungti is a remote village located in southeastern Ladakh, close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC), on the route connecting Loma to Demchok along the Indus River.

Distance from Leh: Approximately 220 km (7–9 hours by road), depending on road and checkpoint conditions.

Accessibility:

  • By Road:

    • Accessible from Leh via Mahe → Nyoma → Loma → Dungti.

    • The route passes through high-security areas and follows the Indus River in parts.

    • Final stretches may be unpaved and restricted, requiring sturdy vehicles.

  • Road Conditions: Roads are mostly motorable but can be rough, unpaved, and affected by weather or military activity.

  • Transport:

    • Public transport is not available.

    • Private vehicles with valid permits and preferably high-clearance SUVs are recommended.

  • Permits:

    • Indian Nationals: Require Inner Line Permit (ILP). Additional checks at Loma check-post are common.

    • Foreign Nationals: Generally not permitted to travel beyond Loma due to security restrictions.

  • Special Notes:

    • Military regulation is strict; identity checks and travel restrictions may apply.

    • Photography is prohibited in most stretches past Loma.
