Saboo Monastery, located 8 km east of Leh in Ladakh, belongs to the Drukpa Kagyu tradition and is overseen by Hemis Monastery. Consecrated in 1990 by Drugchen Rinpoche and renamed Tashi Thagyan, it features a meditation cell (Tsamskhang) and statues of Padmasambhava and Gonbo. The annual Kunrig ceremony includes a sand mandala ritual. Nearby, the Ngari Institute offers education to underprivileged children, blending modern learning with Buddhist values. Visited by the Dalai Lama, the monastery and institute serve as centers of peace and learning, surrounded by the stunning landscape of the Indus Valley and Stok Kangri mountains.
