Overview

Lamayuru is one of Ladakh’s most iconic and photogenic destinations, located about 125 kilometers west of Leh on the Srinagar–Leh highway. Distance from Leh: Approximately 70 km (2 to 2.5 hours by road).

Best Time to Visit: May to September, when the roads are clear and weather is favorable for village exploration and trekking.

  • By Road: Accessible via NH1D (Leh–Kargil highway); the drive is smooth and scenic, passing notable landmarks like Likir and Alchi.

  • Transport: Private taxis and shared jeeps are commonly used; public buses also run but are infrequent.

  • Parking: Ample parking space is available near the monastery and nearby guesthouses.

  • Facilities: Limited—basic homestays and guesthouses are available; mobile connectivity may be weak.
