According to local legends and religious beliefs, Gonbo Rangjon is associated with Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), the revered Buddhist saint who introduced Tantric Buddhism to the Himalayas in the 8th century. It is said that the rock is self-manifested (rangjon), meaning it appeared by itself without human intervention, as a physical representation of a spiritual deity. Pilgrims circumambulate the rock in a sacred ritual known as kora, seeking blessings, protection, and spiritual merit.
